What We Offer

New decks

We build decks off the back of the house, wraparound decks, second-story decks with stairs, and platforms framed to carry a hot tub. Composite boards with composite or PVC railings are the low-maintenance choice near salt air, and we also build in cedar and pressure-treated wood.

Deck replacement

If your deck is soft, loose, or just worn out, we tear it out, check the ledger, posts, and footings, and rebuild. When the existing footings are sound and meet current code, we can reuse them. When they are not, we replace them, so the new deck does not sit on an old problem.

  • Stairs, landings, and entry steps

Cape Cod Know-How

Built for Cape Cod weather

  • Salt air and hardware

Near the water, standard fasteners rust. We use hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel connectors and screws wherever salt air reaches the deck.

  • Footings below the frost line

Every post sits on a footing set below the frost depth the Massachusetts building code requires, so the deck does not heave in winter.

  • Ledger and flashing

Where the deck meets the house, the ledger is bolted and flashed so water stays out of your home’s framing. A poorly flashed ledger is one of the most common reasons old decks rot.

  • Flood zones and the shoreline

If the house is in a FEMA flood zone or within 100 feet of a wetland, dune, or coastal bank, the footings, the framing, and the paperwork change. We check the flood map and the Conservation Commission rules before we design.

  • Historic districts

In the Old King’s Highway Regional Historic District along Route 6A, a deck that can be seen from the street needs a certificate from the town’s OKH committee. We build that step into the schedule.

How It Works

Our Process

  1. Site Visit

We look at the house, the grade, the existing deck if there is one, and how you want to use the space, then measure.

  2. Design & Permits

You get a layout, a material choice, and a written estimate. We draw the plans and file for the building permit and any town approvals.

  3. Footings & Framing

Footings, posts, beams, and joists go in to code, with the ledger flashed and the hardware rated for the location.

  4. Boards, Rails & Inspection

Decking, railings, and stairs are installed, the town inspects, and we walk the finished deck with you.

Questions

Deck Builder FAQ

Do I need a permit to build a deck on Cape Cod?

In most cases, yes. A new deck, or a replacement that rebuilds the structure, needs a building permit from the town. Decks near wetlands, dunes, or the shore may also need Conservation Commission approval, and decks visible from the street in the Old King’s Highway district need a historic certificate. We prepare the drawings and handle the applications.

Composite or wood: which deck holds up better near the ocean?

Composite and PVC boards do not need sanding or staining and stand up well to sun and salt air, which is why they are popular on Cape Cod. Cedar and pressure-treated wood cost less up front and look natural, but they need regular cleaning and a fresh coat of stain. Whichever you choose, the framing underneath is what decides how long the deck lasts.

Can a deck hold a hot tub?

Yes, if it is framed for it. A filled hot tub is a heavy, concentrated load, so the joists, beams, and footings under it are sized for that weight from the start. The deck we built in Bourne has a hot tub platform designed this way.

How much does a new deck cost?

It depends on the size, the height off the ground, the decking and railing material, the stairs, and the site. After a site visit we give you a free written estimate with the scope spelled out, so you can compare it line by line.

Which towns do you build decks in?

All 15 towns of Barnstable County: Barnstable, Bourne, Brewster, Chatham, Dennis, Eastham, Falmouth, Harwich, Mashpee, Orleans, Provincetown, Sandwich, Truro, Wellfleet, and Yarmouth.
